BIOGRAPHY

Sally Little was born on 12 October 1951 in Cape Town, South Africa. She was the middle child in the Little family with an older sister and a younger brother. As a youngster she'd tag along behind her dad, Percy Little, on his regular week-end round of golf. At 12 years old, she began to play the game in earnest.

Sally's game matured quickly. By the age of 17, she had claimed more than a dozen national and regional amateur titles. In 1971, not only was Sally the low individual at the World Amateur, she also won the South African Match Play and Stroke Play titles. As an amateur, Sally finished fifth in her first professional event, the Lady Carling Open, that same year. She then decided to turn professional.

After qualifying to play on the LPGA tour, in just seven events, Sally was awarded Rookie of the Year.

Sally's first full year on the LPGA tour was 1972. Her first victory was in 1976 at the Women's International at Moss Creek. The finish was spectacular. Sally holed a 75 ft bunker shot, on the 72nd hole, to edge out Jan Stephenson by one shot. Sally won 12 of her 15 titles between 1979 and 1982, including her first major title, the LPGA Championship, in 1980. For the next ten years, she was consistently ranked in the top five in the world. She won 2 Majors, the last being The Canadian Open in 1988.
